Needham, MA (Jan. 5, 2015) – For the first time on a large stage, Arlekin Players Theatre will perform its newest production, Grigoriy Gorin’s Memorial Prayer. A transformational adaptation of Fiddler on the Roof based on Sholem Aleichem’s Tevye the Milkman, the timeless classic delves into the complexities of the Jewish experience in the Russian Empire as characters are forced to face the inevitable struggle between tradition and modernity.
In 1915, in his will, the famed Sholem Aleichem asked his family and friends to remember him by telling his stories and recalling his name “with laughter or not at all”. One hundred years later, Arlekin Players Theatre honors Aleichem’s will by retelling his stories and bringing to life the humor and tragedy of survival in the shtetls.
Adapted and directed by Igor Golyak, the show is presented in Russian with English subtitles (English translation by Lina Zeldovich).
Opening night is scheduled for 8:00 pm on Friday, Jan. 23, with additional performances on January 24 and January 25 at the Charles Mosesian Theater at the Arsenal Center for the Arts (321 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472). Tickets can be purchased at arlekinplayers.com with prices ranging from $30 to $70.
